Panacea Regina was named in honor of Queen Victoria Regina in 1864 by English naturalist  and explorer Henry Walter Bates, famous for his expeditions in the Amazon. It is the largest in the genus Panacea butterfly and shown both front and back of the butterfly in the same art piece.
